Photographic Exhibition «Binscapes» The visual perspective is the visual thought
Alexandra Martini's photographic exhibition «Binscapes» took place at the Art Center of the Municipality of Athens (Vas. Sofias St., Eleftherias Park) from 5th May to 17th May between the hours of 09:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 21:00 except for Mondays and Sunday afternoons. The opening ceremony took place on 5th May at 19:30.
‚Binscapes’ is an exhibition of photographs by Alexandra Martini presenting the litter bin in its worldwide cultural context. The exhibition shows a typology of public dustbins, from all continents, specified by time and location of recording alongside with twenty large format photographs of landscapes and cityscapes in which one discovers the litter on the image - binscapes. Ranging from Brazil to South Africa and Thailand binscapes tell us not ony how aesthetical the appearance of litter bins in its global everyday surrounding can be, but also how much these so often over-looked items form a constant part of our cultural landscapes. Alexandra Martini has been collecting photographs of dustbins over the last ten years. This exhibition shows the universal role of the trash can. There is no limit to the variety of shapes, materials and colors. Viewed as a whole these objects develop an astonishing bandwith and reveal interesting facts about their cultural context. So let yourself be amazed by the infinite variations of dustbins.

Photographic Art Exhibition with subject “Binscapes” with photographs of Litter Bins from several countries. So here the spotlight is on the litter bin, the trash can – often overlooked in spite of its very public appearance and general usefulness. These photographs of litter bins were taken over a period of many years, simply for the pleasure of observation, experience, documentation and taking photographs.

The more love expend on litter bins, the more the container itself becomes an object worth looking at. Viewed side by side, the objects develop a very special dynamic and revial interesting facts about their cultural context. And so there arises a global typology of the trash can, a small litter-bin universe, which is now presented as a travel guide.
